The English name is of toponymic origin ,being from the place where the original owner lived or held land .In this instance the surname is derived from the place name Mt Orgueil a well known fortress on the  Island of Jersey thus the name signifies" one from Mt Orgueil." varients of the name are Orgel ,Orgels, and Organer

Edmun LeOrgel was mentioned in the early charters of the Cathederal  of St Paul London  [ 1198- 1211 ]   Walter Orgual was recorded in the ministers accounts of the Earldom of Cornwall in 1297 Gerard Orgul was registered in london in 1305 in the calendar of early Mayors court rolls.
